Windy Point is located near Dillon Reservoir at an elevation of 9,000 feet in the White River National Forest. The site consists of a group camp and a group picnic shelter that can accommodate up to 100 people each. With views to Dillon Reservoir and several mountain ranges, Windy Point is ideal for larger groups seeking recreation and relaxation. Due to the pine beetle infestation and removal of hazard trees, there is little or no shade at Windy Point.
From I-70, take the Silverthorne exit 205. Travel east on Highway 6approximately 4 miles to Swan Mountain Road. Proceed 2 miles to SwanMountain Recreation Area. Take dirt road to campground.
This facility is operated by White River Recreation, a division of California Land Management and your comments are appreciated; comment forms are available from campground hosts or on CLM's website . Gate to campground is locked. See host at Prospector Campground (.25 miles from this site) for access. After Labor Day, guests need to obtain the gate combination by calling the managing organization Please close gate at the entrance to Windy Point to keep out people who are not with reservation group Campers must not enter the new construction area Sites may be available on a first-come, first-serve basis Body contact with reservoir prohibited; No swimming, water skiing, jetskiing, or scuba diving in the reservoir Prevent the spread of invasive species by inspecting and cleaning packs, equipment, and tires before using lake or trails In accordance with standard industry practices, there will be a $5 additional vehicle fee on the second vehicle in each single family campsite, and on the third and fourth vehicles in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered as one vehicle for determining additional vehicle fees. The third and fourth motorcycle would also be considered as one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles. Black bears are prevalent in the area and all food or other attractants must be properly stored.
